Eli spent five months on Chios. We met her while sorting clothes in a warehouse. She told us about how she organized a letter-action in her hometown of Gent together with her sisters. We asked her to explain how they managed to make this exchange of ideas across borders happen – from logistics, translation to media visibility.

You can read the letters written by refugees on Chios and the replies on Letters Beyond Borders. If you want to organize a letter-action where you live, get in touch with Eli.

During her time on Chios, Eli also volunteered at the Refugee School where she taught English to teenagers and children, and ran communal art classes.
