Rebecca

Rebeca did not hesitate a moment when we asked her to participate in this project. One morning we met at the car park of Souda camp and took her inside our car to record her thoughts and experience as an independent volunteer on Chios. She talked about many things, from sleepless night shifts, the dehumanising logic of distributions, to the emotional toll of volunteering. But what struck us the most was her questioning of a border regime that is causing systematic suffering to people who, after repeated encounters, have become friends.

Rebeca spent several months on Chios. She joined the Chios Eastern Shore Response Team and provided basic hypothermia training for new volunteers.
